1972 Ford Ranchero GT – PRICE REDUCED!! Was originally $37,500 NOW $27,500 ONO.

I am offering for sale this fantastic example of a classic muscle car/ute. It is a one year only design 1972 Ford Ranchero GT. This is essentially the ute version of Clint Eastwood’s “Gran Torino” in the film of the same name.

This Ranchero GT currently located in Western Australia and is fully registered as a LHD car until May 2016. The car is my own personal vehicle which I imported from the United States.

The collectability of this particular year and style of Ranchero in the US is reflected in the fact that few are offered for sale and, when they are, the prices being asked are increasing rapidly.

Please note that the WA personalised plates DO NOT come with the Ranchero

Photo of 1972 Ranchero

The Ranchero was launched from Dearborn, Michigan in 1957 as the American automotive industry’s first ever car/pick-up, two years before Chevrolet’s belated response of the ‘El Camino’!

Undeniably handsome and perfect for the small businessman in the service industry, the model evolved in the late sixties into a full force muscle machine!

Upsizing of the Ranchero continued into the seventies with the 1972 with the release of the “Torino” styled Ranchero. It was said to combine the best of both worlds; a beautiful and fast luxury muscle truck/car. To this day, many fans of the muscle car hold the 1972 model in high regards. To many, the 1972 GT packaged Ranchero was, and still is, the best Ford Ranchero ever made.

1972 Ranchero Grille Front view of 1972 Ranchero

This offering of the 1972 Ford Ranchero GT is an absolutely exceptional example of an original southern California, 3rd owner, always garaged, RUST FREE, and with no evidence of any accidents.

Details:

  • Exterior: The Ranchero was originally repainted with Dupont Imron Dark Blue Metallic & White in approximately 1994. However, I had it repainted in a Dark Metallic Blue and had matte white GT stripes added. While it is still extremely very presentable as is, there are again some minor scratches and imperfections in the paint, most of which could be buffed out if desired.
  • I ordered a custom made hard tonneau cover from Gaylords Lids in Santa Fe, California and had the optional “speed spur” wing added to the cover. The cover is fully lined and has drainage toughs fitted.
Hard tonneau cover with speed sup wing Side view of Ranchero with hard tonneau cover
  • There was a recessed power antenna installed in the body flare behind the driver door and the Ranchero has a custom tube grille fitted. I have, however, had the antenna and the door handles shaved. The doors are now opened with a remote “door popper”. All chrome and aluminium trim is original and has not been restored.
  • The Ranchero also has the US equivalent of a “Hayman Reece” tow bar fitted.
  • The bed is totally free of imperfections or fillers and has a “Line X” protective finish. I also had the battery re-located into the bed of the Ranchero.
Bed of Ranchero Battery relocated into bed of Ranchero
  • Interior: The interior features the GT Rally Cluster with tachometer and quartz clock, factory air-conditioning, interval wipers, power steering, and power front disc brakes. The pillar and window seals have been replaced. PLEASE NOTE – as the air-conditioning was required to be de-gassed and dismantled prior to entry into Australia, the air-conditioning is not currently operational and will need re-gassing and re-assembly.

GT Rally cluster

  • The seat and door panels are unmolested and in exceptional condition for the age of the Ranchero. There is one small scratch in the padded dash. The carpet is original, shows some wear, but is in overall good shape. The original seat belts and shoulder harnesses were replaced as part of the Western Australian registration and licensing requirements.
inside Ranchero LHS Inside Ranchero RHS
  • An iPod interface, power amplifier and speakers were added to the original working Factory AM/FM Stereo. In addition, and to avoid changing over the speedo to Km/h, I installed a HillSpeed Digital Speedometers from Bogaard Distributors.
GPS Speedo Speedo Box
  • I also have an electric window kit that I purchased from the US and is included in the price but is not yet installed.
  • Unlike Australian “utes”, the Ranchero was built using either a sedan or station wagon chassis.  The benefit of this is that behind the seats is, what would have been the foot-well of the rear passengers. In the Ranchero, the space behind the passenger is where the spare wheel and jack are located.  Behind the driver’s seat there is a great amount of storage space.

Rear behind driver's seat

  • Driveline: According to the person from whom I bought the Ranchero, the engine and transmission were professionally rebuilt at the high 90k miles mark (undocumented). The 351 “H” code 2 bl. carburettor engine is strong and responsive, with excellent oil pressure and no oil leaks or unusual noises. The 3-Speed Cruise-O-Matic transmission, which has a larger capacity oil cooler for added protection under heavy loads, shifts very smoothly through the gears.
  • Since 2007, the person from whom I bought the Ranchero had installed NEW brakes, NEW Alternator, New radiator and hoses, NEW A/C compressor, dryer and updated the remainder of the system. Also added for performance and efficiency was a PerTronix Polished Billet Distributor w/Flamethrower Coil. A 3.0:1 open differential and rear coil suspension with air shocks brings up the rear.
  • After I imported the Ranchero, I had the engine taken out and a new mild cam installed.  In addition a larger carburettor was installed.

The Ranchero purrs like a grumpy kitten at idle and roars like an angry lion when my foot is put down!

Since having the engine rebuilt I have had chrome rocker covers fitted, high capacity spark plug leads and a higher crank amp alternator fitted.

  • Wheels & Tires: “Vintage” American Racing Torq-Thrust D wheels are shod with P235/60 (front) and 255/60 R15 (rear) BFG Radial TA’s.

In addition, with the purchase of the Ranchero you will receive an Elite Marti Report for the car, 5 Workshop manuals, the original owners’ documentation and a coloured wiring diagram sourced from classiccarwiring.com.

There are many more photographs of this beautiful vehicle as well as additional information which is available on request.

This amazing example of a 1972 Ford Ranchero is located in Western Australia. It is fully registered as a LHD vehicle and licensed until May 2016.

This is one great, classic daily driver and reliable muscle truck/car and it absolutely turns heads whenever and wherever I drive it!

The price shown does not include the costs of shipping or transporting the Ranchero to the new owner.

Until next time.

“Checker” brand – El Camino-style pickup planned in relaunch

Hi everyone.

Now that Holden and Ford have been given their “last rites”, it seems that the US is suddenly interested in making “utes” or “coupe utilities” as they call them.

Chevrolet has given an indication that it may make an “El Camino” (whether it will be called that is a question for another day). I will post an article about the proposal for Chevrolet’s “El Camino “shortly. However, if the concept photos are any indications it will sell about as well as the Ford Taurus did here in Australia and they look ugly as F**k!

However, it is not only GM and Ford who are considering making utes (sorry, I refuse to call them “coupe utilities”.   Checker Motor Company (the one that used to make all of the cabs in New York)  announced plans last year to revive the American automotive brand and has released drawings of what it proposes for its first two models — an El Camino-style car-based pickup truck and a six-door airport limousine/group touring vehicle. I will focus on the “El Camino” style car-based pick-up truck (not another word for ute!)

The father of the General Manager of the Checker Motor Company, Steve Contarino, drove a Checker cab in the Boston area and Contarino became known within the Checker owners’ community for restoring the Checker Centurian, a 1967 Ghia-designed concept car. Contarino’s day job for some three decades has been modifying vehicles for the specialized demands of police and fire departments, emergency medical services and other municipal government agencies.

His original plan was simply to do Checker restorations and produce the parts needed for Checker owners to maintain their vehicles — until he discovered there actually may be a commercial market for modern Checker vehicles.

Unfortunately for us, and the world, this is the concept Contarino drawing has released.

Checker Ël Camino"

Can anybody say, “Holden FC Ute”?

FC ute fc_ute

I guess the only requirement to be a US car “designer” these days is the ability to use the Internet and not acknowledge the existence of any other country other than the US.

Cynical. Moi?

Until next time.

One of my own Harleys for sale – Au$17,500 o.n.o

This is an “as new” example of a 2005 Harley Davidson FLHRSI Road King Custom.

I personally imported this classic Harley and another (a 2001 Harley Davidson FLTRI Road Glide that is Jade Sun-Glo Pearl in colour – I will post about this bike soon), from the US in late 2013 and had it complied by a RAWS workshop in Victoria.

This motorcycle is in truly great condition and is located in Western Australia and has only done 26,029 km since new!

It is  fully registered and licensed in Western Australia for 6 months. The registration number is “1GU 205”.

I have ridden this bike and take it out for the occasional run to keep the cobwebs away, and I can tell you it runs as smooth as silk and has the power to GO when you need.

#BringBackOurGirls

#BringBackOurGirlsToday marks 100 days since militants staged a sickening raid on a school in north-eastern Nigeria, kidnapping over 200 girls.

In that time, the heartache of parents and relatives has been felt around the world, powering a global movement to #BringBackOurGirls. While 60 girls were able to escape earlier this month, 219 of their classmates are still being held by the Boko Haram militant group, whose leader has threatened to “sell them in the market” into Forced Marriage.

As the girls’ ordeal continues, the need for coordinated action to secure their release is more important than ever. But this won’t happen unless we can keep the story alive — starting with your community. There are two ways to TAKE ACTION:

1. Host a vigil with your family and friends today, and show solidarity with the missing schoolgirls and their parents.

2. Join the virtual vigil by changing your profile picture on social media.

Pakistani activist Malala recently visited Nigeria to lend her support to the kidnapped girls, and commended their parents for “speak[ing] up for their daughters and speak[ing] up for the right of education.”

By holding a vigil to mark 100 days since the kidnappings, we can add to Malala’s call, and help empower the girls’ families to demand continued action from the Nigerian Government and its partners.

Vigils have already been planned across the globe from Abuja, to Los Angeles, from Perth to Islamabad. At its simplest, a vigil involves inviting your friends and family to light a candle with you and take time out to support the Bring Back Our Girls campaign: click here for more ideas and information on how to plan your vigil.

If you are not able to hold a vigil you can still take part by updating your profile picture on Facebook and Twitter.

Hosting a vigil in your community today is one simple way you can help maintain momentum to #BringBackOurGirls.

Afterwards, the organisation “Walk Free” will make it easy for you to share pictures of your vigil with the Walk Free community and the families of the missing girls.

Until next time. Michael
